Review: Heatmiser Neo wise house Heating manage System

last weekend Automated house visitor Robin Edwards converted the tiring old 20th century heating system in his holiday trip to a shiny new wise house alternative, the Heatmiser Neo…

We have holiday house as well as each time we go in winter season we are faced by a chilly home which takes three to four hours to heat.

The system was installed eighteen months back based on a Worcester Bosch combi boiler with Honeywell controls including two zones (a programmer as well as two space stats).

I started investigating choices however the costs seemed rather high, so when the Heatmiser Neo was revealed in November 2013 I registered interest. I pre-ordered a starter pack as well as additional Neostat before Christmas with expected availability mid January. The elements shown up as expected, mid January.

So, it’s goodbye to two space stats(left) as well as the programmer (right)
They will now be heading off to ebay

The starter pack consists of a Neohub as well as a Neostat.  Also included is a short Cat5 cable, power plug as well as cable. The power plug as well as cable television link through a USB connector so rather than utilize a 13amp socket I linked the cable television direct to one of the USB outlets on my extension cord.

The additional Neostat box includes just the Neostat as well as a set of instructions. In addition I had to purchase two wall boxes as the Honeywell space stats are surface mounted as well as since of the Neostats requirement for a 35mm wall box. The final product was the electrician. I looked in the wiring box (a surface mounted double box) as well as chose I didn’t want to strike something expensive. The supplied booklet provides wiring diagrams for five different electrical configs with boilers.

Installation

While the sparky did the removal of old as well as set up of new I set up the Neohub. In the picture below (right) you can see the Neohub sitting next to my router, linked through the supplied Cat5 cable television as well as likewise linked to the power source. I likewise downloaded the Neo app from the app store to my phone as well as produced an account. I got a confirmation welcome message from Heatmiser within a minute.

Next task is to add a place to the account, so, when logged onto the account you choose ‘add location’, then you just provide it a name as well as the app shows the picture below as well as starts counting down (you have two minutes to press one button on the Nehub!). about ten seconds after pressing the button the app returns with the new place created.

At this point I had to wait on the sparky to finish.  Once he’d evaluated fundamental operation controlling the boiler purely by adjusting the Neostat temperatures like you’d finish with a typical space stat it was back to me. He was efficiently just overriding the programs.

At this stage we were back to where we’d been before the work plus we had a Neohub with a recognised Location. So, next task was to produce two zones as well as pair up the Nestats with them. I chosen the location, then hit the menu icon at the top of the screen.

I tapped on the menu product at the top of the screen on the app as well as a menu appears from the left (it triggers the menu icon to relocation to the best as seen on this shot. I then tapped handle Zones to get into zone Management.

Within zone administration there are a few actions, needless to state I chosen add Zone. At this point you go to the nearest Neostat tab to the configuration button as well as hit the ‘tick’ button twice. This is much the exact same process as setting up the NeoHub earlier. The book suggests doing the NeoStat nearest the NeoHub first, which makes sense as they act as a fit together network.

This establishes a connection between the Neohub as well as the Neostat as well as the zone appeared on my phone with present temp as well as set temp. I repeated this for the second zone.

So, at the end of this process I had two Zones set up with my easy naming convention. Note: For No3 Ground zone the space is not as warm as the Neostat is set so it is requiring warm (the flame). The configuration temperatures were left from our handbook testing earlier.

The next task was to produce two profiles, one for when we are in home as well as one for when we are not. when the profiles were added you have the choice of editing or activating them (at any type of time). It is possible edit the profiles to modification them, produce much more or to eliminate them.

Each profile has four settings per day, Wake, Leave, Return as well as Sleep. I’m utilizing a profile that is weekdays/weekends as can be seen in the screenshot (Wake Weekdays at 6:00 an weekends at 6:00 – set temperature to 21c. 24 hour as well as 7 day modes are likewise offered in profiles Note: the next day I changed to 7 day profiles so everyday of the week can be set separately.

To apply the profile to a Neostat tap the ‘activate’ button as well as you get provided with a listing of zones. tap the ones you want to apply the profile to as well as it gets applied. In my screenshot below I tapped both than took the shot, takes about five seconds or so to update.

Finally poking around in the app I found it is possible to get everyday graphs for the last seven days. I don’t keep in mind this being in the documentation, however I may have missed it as well as as the home as well as documentation are 150 miles away I can’t check. However, I can inspect on the house. To do this, choose zones, tap on a zone, pick history off the menu. pick the day you want as well as the graph appears (simple however satisfies my needs).

Another helpful function is the temperature Hold (seen above), if you choose this you can set a temperature as well as a duration as well as it will hold that temperature for nevertheless long you set the duration to. I can see this would be helpful if you are running late as well as want a zone to stay hot or great for longer than programmed. After the duration set it returns to the typical setting for the zone.

Initial Conclusion

Easy to set up, we were up as well as running in under an hour.

Three boxes swapped for two

Easy to utilize app, remote tracking from phone looks good

Gives me the manage I’ve been hoping for, the proof of the pudding will be exactly how we get on over the next couple of months.

Of program your benefit may vary from mine depending upon what you want to achieve.  I have no links with Heatmiser, other that I’ve just purchased the Heatmiser Neo we installed today.
